UK King’s Daughters was founded in 1899 by a group of community-minded women who recognized a need for a hospital to serve the larger Ashland community. Our first hospital consisted of three rooms on the 2^nd floor of the Poage, Elliot & Poage Drug Store on 16^th Street in downtown Ashland. Our first patient was treated for typhoid fever. Our first surgery was a lower limb amputation – the result of a railway accident.

Although our hospital has been located at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 22^nd Street for 108 years, things have changed – a lot over the decades. Today, UK King’s Daughters consists of a 455-bed regional medical center in Ashland; five medical office buildings (three on the main campus, and one each in Russell, Ky., and Portsmouth, Ohio); a rural emergency facility in Portsmouth; primary/specialty care offices throughout southern Ohio and eastern Kentucky; a long-term care facility; medical transport services; and home healthcare.

We serve more than 400,000 people across three states and 11 counties.
